Senior Geologist

The Senior Geologist reports directly to Manager, Geology and responsible:

  1. For leading geological studies and 3D geological modelling throughout the exploration and production cycle. This integrates various subsurface and production data to generate integrated geological models of the subsurface for the optimal placement of exploration, appraisal, and development wells. Strong geological modelling skill are a pre-requisite for this position to be able to work effectively with an integrated multi-disciplinary technical team.
  2. To maximize economic recovery and present value by managing subsurface projects, reserves, production forecasts, costs, and exploration.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Geological assessment and studies of new venture, exploration and mature field opportunities.
  2. Build and maintain 3D geocellular static models that incorporate various subsurface & production data to have models that best represent the reservoir architecture, in-place hydrocarbon volumes and most current production behavior.
  3. Maintain field-scale well correlations that clearly define reservoir flow units and their connectivity and continuity across the field for use in mapping, geological modelling and the overall understanding of producing reservoirs.
  4. Incorporate all subsurface data (e.g., sedimentological & stratigraphic interpretations, biostratigraphic data, structural data, petrophysical data, pressure & temperature data, and seismic data, laboratory measurements) into the building of reservoir models.
  5. Perform pre-drill subsurface risk assessment and volumetrics. Generate ranked leads and prospects portfolio for drilling candidates.
  6. Effectively work in an integrated team composed of geoscientists, petrophysicists, reservoir engineers and production technologist and taking the lead on geoscience matters.
  7. Prepare well proposals and propose formation evaluation programs in support of drilling to meet reservoir characterization requirements.
  8. Provide geological input to support drilling operations, including real-time monitoring. Work closely with Operations and Wellsite Geologist during pre-drill, execution and post-drill stages.
  9. Coordinate with the drilling group to ensure safe and successful exploration and development drilling campaigns. Provide expertise and knowledge to identify drilling risks and geohazards and provide solutions to mitigate these risks.
  10. Provide input to Field Development Plans (FDPs) for development opportunities.
  11. Undertake accurate deterministic and probabilistic volumetric evaluations for reserves assessment and audits.
  12. Plan, coordinate and follow through geological laboratory analyses of rock and fluid samples in accordance with or exceeding industry standards and requirements.
  13. Manage stakeholder expectations and ensure all correspondence, presentation materials, reports, and documentation meet the highest technical standards and are submitted promptly.
  14. Participate in data rooms, compile, and analyze geoscience subsurface and engineering data to provide technical recommendations of opportunities on offer.
  15. Mentor and coach geologists in the team to achieve full potential.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geoscience or Earth Sciences, or equivalent qualification from recognized universities/academic institution.
  • At least fifteen (15) to twenty (20) years of working experience in the geoscience and petroleum engineering disciplines in the oil and gas industry, preferably with an operator.
  • Essential experience in geological interpretation and modelling methodologies.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in building 3D geocellular static reservoir models using Petrel or TNav software.
  • Extensive experience in geostatistics, uncertainty quantification/analysis, and hydrocarbon volumetric estimation, with the ability to develop robust geological models by integrating multidisciplinary subsurface data, including seismic data. Proven experience working with clastic depositional systems is required, while knowledge of carbonate depositional systems will be considered an added advantage.
  • Competent in geological depositional systems, with experience in Malay Basin or Sabah geological settings.
  • Familiar with geophysical data, offshore drilling operations, wellsite activities, and well log analysis and interpretation. Capable of supporting technical review processes and the preparation of Field Development Plans (FDPs), Full Field Reviews (FFRs), and other field development evaluations.
  • Able to work effectively in an integrated multi-disciplinary team environment with diverse cultures and experiences.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
