As a Legal Counsel, the job holder will assist the Head of Legal and General Counsel in the Legal department’s functions and provide legal support to all business units within the Company. The job holder must keep himself/herself abreast with the legal framework developments in both Brunei and Malaysia to provide sound advice on legal matters.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Contracting
- In close collaboration with the Head of Legal, support with the preparation, negotiation, and conclusion of high value / complex contractsÂ
- In close collaboration with and minimal supervision from Head of Legal, the Legal Counsel support the procurement / supply chain management team(s) on all contracting strategies and process for exploration, development, projects, and operational work programsÂ
- Advisory
- In close collaboration with and minimal supervision from the Head of Legal, provide support to all of Hibiscus Brunei’s negotiations pertaining to Legal matters with relevant external stakeholders
- General Legal Support
- Assist the Head of Legal by providing general legal support as necessary on any other legal aspect of the business across all business units
- Education
- Assist in carrying out any awareness or education initiatives of the Legal department.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement of legal administration systems, processes, and practices.
- HSE Responsibilities
- Supporting the implementation of the HPB HSE Objectives and Action Improvement plans.
- Support & participate in HSE Audits and identify areas for continuous improvement.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Possess an Anglo-Saxon legal background (Minimum LLB) or Bachelor’s Degree in Law or equivalent.
- Qualified solicitor and/or Barrister-in-Law of a country of common-law jurisdiction, and preferably, to the Supreme Court of Brunei Darussalam.
- At least 3-5 years relevant working experience.Â
- Experience in the oil and gas industry is essential
- High proficiency in spoken and written EnglishÂ
- Experience in litigation and dispute resolution.Â
- Effective management of external counsel, ensuring quality output within time, and budget constraints.
- Extensive negotiation experience.
- Sound, logical, and rational thinking.
- Strong attention to details.
- Proactive and able to problem solve effectively.
- Able to work independently and produce accurate and sound deliverables.
- Accountable and takes ownership of own work performance.
