  • The Reservoir Surveillance Engineer reports directly to the Manager, Reservoir Surveillance and responsible for overall production system from reservoir to well up to surface facilities while always maintaining safety. 
  • The purpose of this job is to optimize production of oil and gas at an optimum level, increasing the value of the asset on a daily basis.
  • This position also acts as the main support for offshore installation operations through daily well monitoring, analysis through reservoir surveillance and providing recommendations to the offshore operators. 
  • In achieving production, injection, and emission targets, overseeing activities and performance for the assigned fields
  • The incumbent responsibilities include wells surveillance, production performance monitoring and facility efficiency performance, optimizing production, minimizing production losses, planning production enhancement activities, and executing production debottlenecking initiatives.



Production Performance Monitoring

  • Monitors production performance and provides recommendations for optimization of production rates and reserves.
  • Closely monitor well’s production potential through close surveillance of online parameters to ensure all wells produce as expected.
  • Fully utilize PI as a surveillance tool to monitor wells and fields performance. Highlight discrepancies/irregularities and act quickly to ensure production is not disrupted.
  • Review and optimize wells and reservoir performance – plan vs actual.
  • Monitor and analyze field data and trends to ensure the fields are producing at optimum levels. Perform analysis on well tests to trend fields’ performance.
  • Verify and validate production data, well testing, and deferment records on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. Validate well tests timely to reflect up-to-date capacity/potential.
  • Identify all issues and root causes causing lower production as well as put together solutions and action plans to reinstate production availability close to technical potential.
  • Identify production constraints/debottleneck and put action plans to remove the constraints and bring back production to technical potential.
  • Increase/sustain production through routine wireline optimization and restoration activities (waxcut, ZOC, GLVC, sand bail, etc.). Closely monitor wells performance to identify opportunities and record the gains/unlocked potential from each wireline activity.

Production Loss Management

  • Coordinates the company production loss management system.
  • Minimize scheduled and unscheduled deferment through quality planning and prioritization, especially while planning for wireline intervention activities 90-day plan. Ensure any well that is no longer producing at its potential is prioritized based on production deferred to restore these wells.

Surveillance Programs and Coordination

  • Delivers reservoir management plan, field-wide surveillance programs, and monthly targets for production.
  • Coordinate with Production Technologists on all relevant surveillance matters, which include PLTs, well stimulation, water shut-off, and artificial lift requirements.
  • Coordinate with production operations and surface facility personnel for all logistical aspects of surveillance plans.
  • Conduct regular surveillance review sessions as required with PSC partners and regulatory bodies.
  • Safeguard production volumes, achieve injection volumes, and adhere to emission limits to meet PETRONAS allowable & COMPANY business targets.
  • Perform gas lift checks to ensure gas lift distribution is optimized. Ensure gas lift optimization software is updated and calibrated.
  • Plan for idle wells restoration. Discuss with Production Technologist for candidates, plan, and updates/progress.

Data Management and Analysis

  • Organize and maintain wells and fields production data for analysis and studies.
  • Prepare/verify reported deferment/loss, production, injection, flaring, and other production data daily. Make necessary changes/adjustments to provisional data reported in P2 or equivalent database like Avocet.
  • Check wells capacities/potential, deferment, and production availability logged daily against allocated production and ensure RF is 0.9-1.1 (strive to be 0.95-1.05). Check for “hidden” deferment and troubleshoot for causes of “dropped” or “higher” potential.
  • Monitor and ensure 100% monthly well test compliance for all flowing wells, or with waiver.
  • Perform Wellbore Split Interval update in P2.
  • Maintain well files and ensure well diagrams are updated in a common folder.
  • Monitor and ensure monthly PWST compliance, ensuring sampling/measurements are taken as required/needed. Send out sampling instructions (ad hoc) if needed for troubleshooting/checking.
  • Issue routine wireline programs and provide input into non-routine wireline programs.
  • Update and issue monthly field Current/Capacity Production Limit/RMP.
  • Prepare STPF for tanker and MPP.
  • Revise and update wireline intervention plan with the correct priority of activities.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and improve reconciliation factor for theoretical against actual on a daily and monthly basis.

Inter-Departmental and Partner Coordination

  • Coordinates and documents multi-discipline data acquisition needs and suggests relevant processes for execution plans.
  • Coordinate with wells engineers to ensure compliance with the well integrity framework, monitor parameters, or carry out actions/activities for wells with integrity issues. Optimize planning of wireline and well integrity jobs.
  • Work closely with wells team to ensure effective wireline jobs are carried out, adequate spares for consumables and jobs are prioritized with limited resources across the COMPANY fields.
  • Report/log issues with inaccurate or no measurement data related to metering, PI, server communication, etc.
  • Address H2S issues and ensure close monitoring of high H2S wells. Ensure risks for further souring are at a minimum and mitigations are in place. Daily monitoring of H2S and injection (water & chemical), engage in discussions to manage issues.

Meetings and Reporting

  • Focal point for any production-related items and discussions with other functional teams.
  • Attend and participate in daily morning, fields’ review, wells, subsurface, metering, and other related meetings.
  • Provide input for AMIR, Wells Opportunities Review, WPB, BP, IOM, OPR, etc.
  • Update Production Loss/Deferment Reporting & critical equipment report and 5Ys when necessary.

Communication and Logistical Coordination

  • Issue out programs/instructions to offshore for data gathering or troubleshooting activities to bring back production to potential or increase production levels.
  • Manage inter-company partner communication, including meetings, TCMs, and workshops, as well as regulatory meetings (MPM) and communications, ensuring that all correspondence, presentation materials, reports, and other documents are of the highest technical standards and are submitted in a timely manner.



  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent qualification from recognized universities.
  • Possess at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline or any technical discipline or equivalent
  • qualification from recognized universities/academic institution.
  • 0-5 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry, preferably in a PSC environment.
  • Possess a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in production operations, with knowledge of well and reservoir surveillance, and/or the oil and gas industry. Recent graduates may be considered if they exhibit exceptional academic achievements and demonstrate a strong potential in the field.
  • Knowledgeable of the principle of reservoir engineering and petroleum engineering related 
  • Knowledge of OFM, Saphir and PETEX (PROSPER, MBAL,GAP, PVTp) software packages will be an added advantage.
  • A strong work ethic with the ability to deliver in a timely fashion all required work scope
  • Ability to work and communicate with different departments (studies, offshore, operations, MPM and PCSB)
  • Proficiency in production surveillance and optimization, encompassing artificial lift systems.
  • Knowledge of water injection and gas injection systems.
  • Knowledge of reservoir engineering, well services operations, and surface facilities and equipment.
  • Exceptional coordination and communication skills, both written and verbal.
